For a vehicle first used on or after 1 April 1985, the front side glass must let at least 70% of light through and the windscreen at least 75%. Earlier vehicles need at least 70% through both. These figures apply to the existing glass and any added film together, so the tint's percentage alone doesn't tell you whether the finished window meets the legal limit.
